The National Archives exists for the control and custody of the public archives and records of the Government, state corporations, missions and individuals; and for preservation of books, manuscripts, maps and pictorial matters relating to the Republic of Zambia. Work on the public archives is carried out at Lusaka National Archives and at various Record Centres: Lusaka, Mansa, Chipata, Kabwe, Ndola, and Livingstone. The National Archives is concerned with government records at all stages of their existence. The department co-operates with Ministries, Departments, parastatal organizations and the National Institute of Public Administration in matters of filing, registry procedures and preservations of records.
